Alexej Behnisch

About me

Alexej Behnisch is a political scientist responsible for Governmental Relations at the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security, Germany’s leading research institution for cybersecurity, privacy and artificial intelligence.

An expert in international relations with degrees from Aberystwyth and the London School of Economics (LSE), as well as study visits at Heidelberg and the University of Southern California (USC), he worked in the past as a researcher, teacher, writer, editor and political advisor across Europe, with longer stays in Portugal and the UK.

Alexej was born in Germany, while his wife Mara comes from Cabo Verde. They met in Faro, in the Algarve, which is the geographical mid-point of their birthplaces. Clearly, it was destiny.

Alexej plays tennis, watches football, supports Arsenal, and likes to walk and cycle in nature. He is fluent in German and English, speaks basic Portuguese and remembers some French and Russian from school.

English speakers can pronounce Alexej Behnisch akin to Alex-say Bay-nish. See About my name
